Bathtubs are Purely for Indulgence
Bathrooms are definitely functional spaces meant for taking care of our daily hygiene. Most of the pieces in any ensuite serve a purpose that we cannot do without. However, out of the all the pieces found in a bathroom, bathtubs and bidets are two of the most indulgent fixtures around, with bathtubs being the most coveted and relished of all. The reason for this is that bathtubs are not merely for cleansing ourselves but are mainly used as a tool for soaking tired muscles and re-energizing over-worked bodies.
In the past bathtubs were combined with showers and it was considered an upgrade to have a bathtub and a separate shower stall. However, in more and more homes this scenario is the norm. In fact, in most new constructions the bathtubs are separate from the shower stall. This also reflects a shift in how we view the bathroom. Bathrooms are no longer simply for brushing our teeth, using the facilities and showering. Bathrooms are used as mini-sanctuaries into which we can escape at the end of a long day and this mentality is reflected in the increase in size in most bathrooms and the separation of the bathtub and the shower.
Another bathtub feature that used to be considered extravagant was installing a tub with water jets. Yet again, these nifty tubs are seeing an increase in use. Bathtubs with jets – commonly called whirlpool tubs are a great way of getting a cheap massage. The pressure from the jets relieves stress and tension in muscles and really does a lot towards relaxing your body and mind. Sunken tubs are also becoming more common as are grandiose surroundings for bathtubs such as Roman columns, mirrored walls and windows.
Choosing the right bathtub for your bathroom can be a lot of fun. From corner tubs to old-fashioned tubs to sleek new sunken tubs, there is such a vast selection from which to choose that you are bound to find just the right tub for your needs. Tubs also come in very different materials. Some people prefer metals tubs coated in porcelain as a throw back to the tubs of yesteryear, however, metal tubs can be very noisy when filling up and are not recommended for upper level bathrooms. The more widely used are fibreglass tubs and polymer tubs – both of which are extremely durable and very attractive. So, when you are on the market for a new tub, just keep in mind that you should choose something in which you can really see yourself relax!
